Vineyard Information
Our estate Viognier is a rare and unusual wine for us from many perspectives. It is one of the smallest plantings on our vineyard. It is also a block planted on Riperia Gloire rootstock which helps this very late ripening varietal achieve flavor in our cool climate. This planting is on a hill adjacent to the oldest Chardonnay block on our estate. The soil is a gravely loam with significant amounts of limestone. The 2008 Vintage gave us a small crop per vine due mainly to hot weather during flowering, but otherwise the season went well. The grapes were harvested in perfect condition.
Winemaking & Cellar Information
With this wine as well as with all of our white wines we are particularly careful with pressing. It is our desire to extract only the juice from the pulp, with a minimum from the skins. This gives us a wine with lighter color, more finesse, and greater longevity. It limits the amount we can get per ton, but increases the quality immeasurably. We ferment in stainless steel tanks and barrels at a cool temperature to preserve freshness. The wine is fermented completely dry and no malolactic ferment is allowed. The wine is aged for a few months on its yeast lees and then bottled.

Tasting Notes
The wine is pale in color, a white gold tinged with green. This is the first indicator of quality in a white wine. The aroma is delicate and floral. The primary aromatic is of orange blossom, along with other citrus notes. It is remarkably fresh and compelling for a Viognier which tend to be ponderous. The flavors follow the aroma. This wine is very refreshing without being sharp or shrill. The fruit flavors give a sense of sweetness that fills the middle palate. It is dangerously quaffable.
