Vineyard Information
Both the Grenache and the Syrah were sourced from our Salaal Vineyard. These vines surround the house of our owner Bob Schiebelhut. The vineyard is on a flat site, but the underlying gravel soils make for a good environment for the vines. Historically some of our very best Syrah has come from these vines. The Viognier is from the southern end of Edna Ranch East about three miles south of the winery.
Winemaking & Cellar Information
Making rose is a curious exercise. In essence you are making white wine, but you are using red grapes and want to get a bit of the color and flavor from them into the wine, while still keeping a white wine like character overall. The pressing of the grapes is a real challenge as you want some color but no bitterness. We pressed the Grenache and Syrah in the same press load. We fermented the juice in a stainless steel tank to keep the flavors as fresh as possible. After a few months ageing in tank we bottle it. We added a bit of Viognier after the fact to this wine as we wanted to emphasize the aromatics.

Tasting Notes
One of our tasters called this wine as refreshing as sorbet. The color is a pale purplish pink. The aromas are of raspberry, rose and nectarine with a hint of lemon. The flavors and textures are sweet with fruit character while having no residual sugar. It is a perfect quaffing wine for a summer picnic.
