2006 "Marely Anne" Pinot Noir
Varietal Composition:
100% Edna Ranch Pinot Noir
Appellation: Edna Valley
Block Select Pinot Noirs
These block select wines are meant to represent a broad array of the styles that are possible from the many sites, soils, and clones of our Edna Ranch estate vineyard. This block is often the earliest picked and makes a delicate perfumed wine.
Vineyard Information
There is a strip of soil that runs across the vineyard just in front of the winery. It is a black gravelly loam and it runs through blocks, 518, 512, and 513. The blocks on either side of these do not make reserve level wines. It is fascinating how specific the site is for the best wines. Even a few yards can make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.
Winemaking & Cellar Information
When the grapes are perfect, it doesn’t take a fancy recipe to make great wine. These wines are selected from out best vineyard sites so we have the luxury of using basic classic winemaking techniques. Slow hand punched fermentations, careful attention to detail, and a final flavor based barrel selection.
Tasting Notes
The dark medium color leads to ripe aromatics reminiscent of blackberry and blueberry jam. There is just a hint of appellation specific fennel. The mouth is lush and full of sweet fruit to balance the fine tannin grain. This wine gives every indication of being capable of lasting a long time in the bottle. It will stay young tasting for 4-6 years. -Winemaker, Larry Brooks
