Vineyard Information
Excluding several days in the high ninties, the harvest weather for 2001 was milder than the two previous years. Grape "set" and cluster size were particularly small leading to wines possessing assertive varietal intensity. As with previous vintages, the Pinot Noir clones Pommard, 2A, 667, and 115 were used in the final assemblage.
Winemaking & Cellar Information
The hand-harvested grapes were picked into half-ton bins. The clusters were destemmed and whole berries were transferred gently into 1 and 5-ton fermenters. Following a 36-hour cold soak, the must was inoculated with natural wine yeast and punched down depending of the rate of fermentation. When dry, the must was transferred to small-lot basket presses. The young wine was allowed to settle for a 24-hour period and thereafter transferred to 100% French oak barrels (40% new) where it remained until the September 2002 bottling.

Tasting Notes
Aromatic notes of rose petal and black fruit lead out of the glass. Luscious entry confirms blackberry and spiced floral notes with a trace of licorice. Mouth-filling richness leads to a pleasant tannic edge, and delightfully long finish.
